Geisinger College of Health Sciences Continuing Education offers a one day course designed to give individuals who care for patients with chronic pain a greater understanding of the complexity of pain management including the latest treatments for chronic pain and safer alternatives to traditional opioid prescriptions. Providers will be given practical knowledge to better treat patients with chronic pain and addiction. They will also learn about integrative medicine as an alternative to traditional medication, interventional, and surgical treatment options for patients with chronic pain.
At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss vertebrogenic pain and how ablation of the BVN can lead to axial back pain relief
- Describe PRP vs BMAC and their roles as novel biologic agents
- Review common opioid mechanisms of action
- Identify patients who may be candidates for minimally invasive spine surgery
