This three-day course is designed to help clinicians who have had problems associated with prescribing controlled substances improve their prescribing practices. After participating, clinicians should be able to describe and discuss current information on proper prescribing practices of controlled substances, how to recognize risky prescribing of controlled substances, strategies to avoid inappropriate prescribing behaviors, strategies for managing the drug-seeking patient, an approach to managing chemical dependency using SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral for Treatment), and how to access state’s prescription drug monitoring program.
